The Community Through Our Lenses

“The Community through Our Lenses” is a video competition organised by the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), targeted at youth in Central Singapore district. The objective of the video competition is to highlight real life community issues observed by youth through their lenses and to encourage youth to play a more active role in the community.

Each participating group is required to film and edit a video clip of no longer than three minutes   depicting community issues based on one of the following themes:

Categories

Examples of Community Issues 

1. Seniors
  • Social isolation among seniors
  • Bed Bugs and hoarding in rental flats
2. Youth
  • Congregation of youth at risk at HDB void deck and engaging in delinquent activities
  • Using online media for inappropriate purposes
3. Family & Children
  • Low income families facing difficulties coping with high standard of living
  • Children loitering at playground and not attending kindergarten and primary school
4. People with Disabilities
  • Lack of accessibility ramps for wheelchair bound residents
  • Lack of employment opportunities for people with disabilities
  • Mentally ill patients facing difficulties integrating back into the society due to social stigma
5. Community
  • Strengthening social ties among neighbours in the community

Submitted videos will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Content– originality of the content e.g. is this a newly discovered community issue or an existing issue that is known to us?
  • Relevance – is the issue raised relevance to the community? Does the issue portray a potential social gap on the ground?
  • Creativity – creativity and format of the video e.g. is the issue being highlighted in a creative manner? Is the video able to touch the heart of the audience? Is there a continuity of scene in the video?

The five winning entries from the video competition will receive the following awards and recognition:

Champion:

  • The team will receive certificates and prizes worth up to $1,500.
  • The video produced by the team will be screened at our Central Singapore District Meeting 2013 in July.
  • The video produced by the team be uploaded on our CDC’s website.
  • The team will be recognised and featured on our CDC’s Social Media Platforms e.g. Facebook and websites.

1st Runner-up:

  • The team will receive certificates and prizes worth up to $1,200.
  • The video produced by the team will be screened at our Central Singapore District Meeting 2013 in July.
  • The video produced by the team will be uploaded on our CDC’s website.
  • The team will be recognised and featured on our CDC’s Social Media Platforms e.g. Facebook and websites.

2nd Runner-up:

  • The team will receive certificates and prizes worth up to $900.
  • The video produced by the team will be uploaded on our CDC’s website.
  • The team will be recognised and featured on our CDC’s Social Media Platforms e.g. Facebook and websites.

3rd Runner-up:

  • The team will receive certificates and prizes worth up to $600.
  • The video produced by the team will be uploaded on our CDC’s website.
  • The team will be recognised and featured on our CDC’s Social Media Platforms e.g. Facebook and websites.

4th Runner-up:

  • The team will receive certificates and prizes worth up to $300.
  • The video produced by the team will be uploaded on our CDC’s website.
  • The team will be recognised and featured on our CDC’s Social Media Platforms e.g. Facebook and websites.

  • “The Community through Our Lenses” video competition will be held from 11 March 2013 to 17 May 2013.
  • The contest is open to youth aged 15 to 25 years old.
  • Each team must consist of at least three and no more than ten members
  • The team is required to provide the personal particulars of all the team members by filling up Annex A of the registration form.
  • All registered members must be involved in the full planning, execution and filming of the video.
  • There is no limit to the number of video clips that each school/institution can submit. However, each team is only allowed to submit one video clip and each student is only allowed to register with one team.
  • The duration of the video clip must be no longer than three minutes.
  • Teams may use Camcorder, video cameras or digital cameras to film the video clip. However, the video must be submitted in .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, or .wmv video format.
  • The video clip must be from one of the categories listed above and it must capture the essence of the community issues faced by the residents.
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
  • The video clips submitted by the team shall become the property of the Organisers, who reserve all rights to use these materials for promotional and marketing purposes.
  • All video entries are to be submitted to Central Singapore CDC by 17 May 2013 at 6 pm.
  • Participating teams are required to submit  Annex A of the registration form and their video clip in the format of  a DVD-ROM to the following CDC’s staff:
