TRUST Home is a home visit programme aimed at promoting interaction between people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Participants will be hosted to a visit by host families who will share information on their daily customs and practices.
“I remember that back in the days of the kampong, harmony was a way of life. We children popped in and out of our friends’ and neighbours’ homes almost every day. No one closed their doors. Parents will offer us food but they would understand that they should not offer food which was not halal to the Muslim children. Out of this living environment and attitude grew a natural understanding and respect, something which we miss in today’s high-rise living.”
– Mr Edward D’Silva, District Councillor, Central Singapore CDC
Participants at the TRUST Home programme get an opportunity to interact with host families and see for themselves the home setting and daily practices of host families who are from diverse ethnic, religious and professional backgrounds. It is an opportunity to try ethnic food, costume and understand religious practices and customs in a non-formal environment.
The programme is opened to all schools (citizens and PRs), residents (citizens, new citizens and PRs) and community leaders. A minimum of 20 participants is required for each session. There is no participation fee. Transport, refreshments, information kit, travel insurance and facilitators will be provided by Central Singapore CDC. A workshop session on living in a multi-cultural society is included in the programme for students.
