To assist the needy, bond the people and connect the community
An inclusive, vibrant and self-reliant Central Singapore Community
At Central Singapore CDC, we are Passionate, Approachable, Creative and strive for Excellence in our work. These core values anchor the work we do, and guide us towards the result we seek.
Led by the Mayor of Central Singapore District, Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, the Central Singapore CDC serves as the first stop for active citizenry and community initiatives at the local neighbourhood level.
As part of the People’s Association (PA), we build social capital by bringing people from different backgrounds closer to each other, and creating opportunities for groups to meet, exchange ideas, and strengthen the community through local solutions to social issues.
We provide financial and employment assistance to needy residents in the Central Singapore District, where more than two-thirds of Singapore’s one- to two-room HDB rental flats are located.
We administer a broad range of community programmes targeted at low-income families, vulnerable elderly residents, and residents with special needs, which allow the more able to assist the less able through volunteerism and philanthropy. We seek to assist our needy residents in a warm, timely and flexible manner.
The CDC also provides funding and matching grants for community programmes initiated by grassroots organizations, voluntary welfare organizations 9VWOs), educational and corporate institutions.
Our stakeholders and partners are varied but always at the heart of our work. We help residents in financial need, support grassroots organisations in building social cohesion, and connect community players such as voluntary welfare organisations, schools, and corporate citizens.
Through all our diverse areas of work, something never changes: we bring in the community to provide solutions to social issues.
We firmly believe that
Life’s better for all, when everyone lends a helping hand!
We assist, bond and connect the 975,000 residents of the Central Singapore District, through our community initiatives. More than a third of our residents are aged 50 and above, living in mature housing estates. Central Singapore has the highest proportion of low-income residents, but is also home to some of the most resourceful segments of our population. The District covers the modern Central Business District and shopping areas of Orchard Road, and yet still retains its rich historic areas of Kampong Glam, Chinatown and Little India. Diversity is our strength – this is where the old meets the new, and the more able step up to help the less able.
