Healthy Lifestyle Clubs

About
The Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) were first launched in April 2001 to encourage residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and sports. The programme is also an effort to promote bonding among families and active aging for the elderly.

There are currently 115 Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) s with 12,000 members.

Forming a Healthy Lifestyle Club
An Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) can be formed by any group (including grassroots organizations, community groups, schools, etc). A minimum of 50 members is required and the group should be committed to engage in any healthy lifestyle activities. Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) s are also asked to take part in at least 2 monthly walks organized by CS CDC is a year.

An Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) should be a registered entity as all financial payment and reimbursements can only be paid to the registered organization and not to individuals.

For Grassroots organisation

Matching Grant
A 1:1 matching grant capped at $500 will be given to all new Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) s and for Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) s which renew their participation each year. This means that the Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) will commit a sum of $500 which will be matched by the CDC. The total amount of $1,000 can be used by the Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) to carry out its healthy lifestyle activities throughout the year.



For Non-Grassroots Organisations (As of Sep 2011 onwards)

Requirements
• Minimum of 15 members per club
• Maximum of 50 members* per club
*Should the organisation have more than 50 members, they can consider setting up another club but will be restricted to only 4 HLC
maximum

• Open invitation(First come first served) to HLC Monthly Walk for 1,500 members on 3rd Sunday of every month
• Open invitation (First come first served) to Central Singapore On The Move event
• Using number of members ($20 per member restricted to batches of 10 members) to fund each club. E.g. One club with 16 members
= $20 per member x 15 members per club= $300.00
• Pledge to send 2 members for Exercise Leader course
• Maximum quantum of $1,000 per club outright with maximum of 50 members per club
• Low level entry. HLC leader to only provide:
– a point of contact for the interest group;
– list the location place and particular sport the interest group play;
– allow other members of the public to join the group and participate in the sport.
• Submission of documents to be a club
– Application form
– Declaration Form
– Statement of accounts
– T-shirt request form
– Complete Name list
– Indemnity form (fax copy allowed)
– Monthly Walk booking (fax copy allowed)



New Funding Model
• 1st tranche of 50% upfront upon signup of minimum 15 members
• 2nd tranche of another 50% or whichever is lower upon submission of Statement of Accounts
• Transport Reimbursement capped at $130 (max) when the club (minimum of 40 members per club) join in HLC Monthly Walk
• Free HLC T-shirt for all members
• Free Fitness Assessment
• Free Exercise Leader Course

Schedule
Central Singapore CDC organise monthly walks on every 3rd Sunday of each month. The walks, which will be held at parks, trails and places of interest throughout the country, are open to all Healthy Lifestyle Clubs (HLCs) s on a first-come-first-served basis. For a list of scheduled walk in 2011, please click here. Please note that the venues are subject to changes and some of the walks are fully subscribed.
