“Queenstown” was named in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. Queenstown is known for its “firsts”. It was Singapore’s first satellite town- a self-contained community with all the necessary residential and social amenities for residents. It was also in Queenstown the first branch library of National Library was opened and the first neighbourhood shopping centre and sports complex were built.
